بائوهینیا بنفش متداول ترین گونه از بائوهینیا است این گیاه به صورت درختی رشد میکند. به این گیاه ارکیده درختی orchid tree نیز میگویند
برگ ها سبز رنگ و دو قسمتی ( دو لبی) با شیار عمیق در وسط برگ است
گلها صورتی ، ارغوانی تا بنفش رنگ هستند و پنج گلبرگ گل از هم جدا و شبیه پروانه هستند
گل ها عطر بسیار ملایم و خوشبویی دارند
این گیاه گرمسیری است و اگر یخبندان در زمستان دارید باید زمستان داخل گلخانه یا اتاق نگهداری شود
