Dypsis pembana is endemic to Tanzania: Pemba Island. Moist lowland forest, littoral forest; alt. 1-50 m. Native only to Pemba, a small island off the coast of Tanzania in eastern Africa, where it grows in rainforest. It is a midsized palm with clustering, slender, smooth trunks to about 12 m (40 ft.) tall, each holding an ascending crown of elegantly arching, keeled leaves. An easy and fast growing, rare palm for the tropics with exceptional ornamental qualities.
