Tecomella undulata is a tree species, found in Thar Desert regions of India and Pakistan. It is a medium-sized tree that produces quality timber and is the main source of timber amongst the indigenous tree species of desert regions of Shekhawati and Marwar in Rajasthan. The trade name of the tree species is desert teak or Marwar teak.
Tecomella undulata plays an important role in ecology. It acts as a soil-binding tree by spreading a network of lateral roots on the top surface of the soil. It acts as a windbreak and helps in stabilizing shifting sand dunes. It is considered as the home of birds and provides shelter for other desert wildlife. Shade of tree crown is shelter for the cattle, goats and sheep during summer days.
Tecomella undulata has got medicinal properties as well. The bark obtained from the stem is used as a remedy for syphilis. It is also used in curing urinary disorders, enlargement of spleen, gonorrhoea, leucoderma and liver diseases. Seeds are used against abscess. انار شیطان گونه‌ای درخت کوچک از تیرهٔ پیچ‌اناریان است. این درختچه را با نام‌های محلی گل‌پرک، پرپوک، سمنگ، سونگ، ساج بیابان هم می‌نامند.
انار شیطان بومی جنوب آسیا و از گونه‌های مهم مناطق بیابانی و خشک در جنوب ایران می‌باشد که در استان‌های فارس بخش علامرودشت استان فارس، بوشهر، خوزستان و هرمزگان به صورت توده‌های کوچک نسبتاً خالص پراکنش دارد. جنگلی به نام گلپرکی دلفارد در جیرفت از رویشگاه‌های معروف آن در ایران است.
انار شیطان درختی بسیار مقاوم به خشکی، یخ‌زدگی و آتش‌سوزی است و برگ‌های آن خوراک دام است. چوب آن زیبا محکم بادوام است و برای ساختن قنداق تنفگهای دست‌ساز و برخی چوبهای جادو خاص کاربرد دارد و نیز برای لوازم ظریف نیز بکار می‌آید.
خواص دارویی فوق العاده ای از جمله درمان سرطان و هپاتیت برای این گیاه ذکر شده است ولی مردم محلی با تکیه بر خرافات این گیاه نحس میدانند و آن را آتش میزنند
