Phoenix theophrasti, the Cretan date palm, is a palm native to the eastern Mediterranean, in the southermost points of Greece and Turkey. It, along with Chamaerops humilis (the European fan palm) are the only native palm species in the Mediterranean basin; areas forested with these species constitute Europe’s only palm forests. Similarly in Turkey, it is the only native palm species; all other species—although much more common—are introduced
نخل خرمای یونانی یا فینیکس تئوفراستی گونه ای از نخل بومی جزیره کرت در کشور یونان است
همانند خرمای خاورمیانه ای خودمان میوه های خرمای یونانی خوراکی هستند
فقط دو نوع نخل در اروپا وجود دارد یکی همین نخل خرمای یونانی و دیگری نخل مدیترانه ای
با وجود خرمای متداول در ایران و خاورمیانه ، خرمای یونانی در ایران بسیار ناشناخته است
